Did someone say BBQ?! Enjoy delicious bbq samplings, live music, and a variety of beer selections at the largest barbecue competition in California. 100 of the top teams from California, Oregon, Utah, Nevada, and Arizona will compete for a share of $30,000 in prize money and bragging rights!
This barbecue is not the same as what you put on your backyard grill! Many teams at Dana Point’s competition smoke, not grill, their meat, applying indirect heat in large containers filled with special types of wood chips (hickory, pecan; the list goes on).
Pounds and pounds of chicken, brisket, pork and ribs are trimmed, seasoned, injected and smoked for hours with special spice rubs. Carefully cut slices of brisket or chicken thighs are placed inside “to go” boxes, essentially takeout food containers that go to the judges. Teams assign special runners and time how long it takes to get from their station to the judges – wait too long to turn in a “to go” box and risk disqualification.
Come sample some of the best bbq you will ever eat! Tasting tickets are $2 each and proceeds benefit the Dana Point Veterans of Foreign Wars.
